Another step — in the direction of technology — has been taken by the FG of Nigeria towards improving the ease of doing business within the country. This is seen in the announcement of the maiden edition of PEBEC Hackathon 2017 competition.
Established in August 2016, the Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council (PEBEC), is an initiative of President Muhammadu Buhari, with the intent of implementing reforms that will make small and medium-sized businesses thrive in Nigeria, as well as improve the position of the country in the World Bank’s Ease of Doing Business index.
PEBEC Hackathon, (#PEBECHack), is a series of Hackathons designed to solve problems at the intersection between the Nigerian government policies, processes and regulations, and the ease of doing business. The program is therefore aimed at utilising smart technological solutions in addressing some of the issues faced by the PEBEC.
To this end, the 2017 edition of PEBEC Hackathon is tailored towards creating a tool that will foster transparency and accountability among major Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) of the country.
Interested individuals and teams for the PEBECHack competition are expected to develop a solution-based service management system that will enable Nigerians to share their opinions/perception on the quality service delivery experienced in major Federal Government parastatals and other vital locations such as airports, seaports and land borders.
The system developed will help to allow Nigerians register their complaints, provide and monitor feedback as well as ‘blow-a-whistle’ about the quality of service received from key Federal Government Agencies
The event is scheduled for 23rd & 24th June 2017 at 9 am – 6 pm each day. The location is in Lagos state.
